Team Mat Clash

TEAM MAT CLASH was born in the early spring of 2025 when Coach Brandon Brunner—a former 3x Tennessee State Champion at the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee—chatted with MAT CLASH founder Jesse Drennen. Out of that conversation came the vision for travel dual teams that would proudly represent MAT CLASH across the country.

Coach Brunner has coached hundreds of youth and high school state champions, and his passion for the sport even inspired the Scramble King character, which debuted in Wave 2 of the Mat Clash card series.

The Scramble King

The journey began at the Nuway Bootleggers Duals in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where Team Mat Clash made an immediate impact and brought home hardware in their debut. From there, the team headed to Atlanta for the Backyard Brawl, continuing to establish their presence on the dual team circuit.

Most recently, Team Mat Clash traveled to Birmingham for the Deep South Duals, fielding both a boys’ high school team and a girls’ K–12 team. The boys battled hard, finishing 11th out of 69 teams, while the girls shined—finishing runner-up in freestyle and capturing the gold pool championship in folkstyle.
