MAT CLASH Wrestling Club Launches First Season in East Ridge, Tennessee
The MAT CLASH Wrestling Club will officially launch its first season this winter, based out of East Ridge High School in East Ridge, Tennessee.

The program will be led by Coach Michael Keefe, who will oversee wrestlers in grades K-8 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while Coach Eric Mountain will guide the high school athletes every Wednesday night.

Coach Michael Keefe, a former NCAA Division I All-American for UTC, has built a strong reputation as a coach—mentoring wrestlers at both the youth and high school levels, developing state champions, and helping guide athletes to success on the college stage.

Coach Eric Mountain, now serving as the head wrestling coach at East Hamilton High School in Chattanooga, brings nearly two decades of championship experience and a proven track record of building winning programs. As head coach at Cleveland Middle School, he led the team to an outstanding 227–12 dual meet record, secured 11 conference championships, and notched 8 undefeated seasons Since assuming his current position in 2022, he has continued to elevate the program—developing a strong youth pipeline, instilling a culture of hard work and accountability, and coaching multiple TSSAA state placers

The idea for the club began when founder Jesse Drennen returned to Tennessee and had a chance conversation with Coach Keefe. Having long admired the name Mat Clash, Coach Keefe embraced the vision of creating a community-driven wrestling program. Keefe brings strong ties to the local wrestling scene, having competed at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga alongside East Ridge High School head coach Chris Byrd—and, as they say, the rest is history.

The mission of MAT CLASH Wrestling Club is simple: to provide young wrestlers with an opportunity to grow and belong, no matter their skill level or economic background. Wrestling truly is for everyone—and at MAT CLASH, athletes will train, compete, and live the MAT CLASH MENTALITY!
